Somali Basketball Stars are geared up for Zone v Basketball Tournament.
Somali men’s national Basketball team will be gathering together in Tanzania's capital Dar el Salam on 17th of January 2012 to participate the Zone v Basketball championship that will be held in Dar el Salam between 21st and 27th of this month.
According to the secretary general of Somali Basketball Federation Said Duale the team that consist professional and college players in North America, Australia and Europe are very promising to achieve success in this tournament.
“After very hard and long research I am very proud to pronounce that we have put together a group of players that Somalis around the world can be proud of and wish that they will excel in the competition. I am grateful to the players, parents, coaches and especially my former basketball friends for their support and encouragement to assemble this outstanding team. It will be a challenging 5 to 6 days in Dar el Salam and the boys believe that with the support of the Somali community in Tanzania they can overcome any challenge and show other countries in the region that Somalia can still compete at highest level despite over twenty years of anarchy in our country” said the secretary talking to cayaaraha.com
The coach of the national team Cumar Barajab has said in Dubai on Saturday that Somalia is prepared to change the attitude of other participants and bring the brilliancy of Somali Basketball back.

“We have three to four days of training before our first game but I am confident that my players are prepared for this task and looking forward to show their ability on the court. Most of them play their basketball either professionally or college in USA and Canada, I have been following their progress and training for the past three months and I am quite happy their professionalism and commitment to the national team” said the former national basketball player and coach.

Coach Salah and former LLPP Basketball player Ahmed Bile who both coach Ilamos Basketball Club in London and were following the preparation and training of the national team said on their side in London on Sunday that Somali National Team’s management has made a great progress towards the identification and selection of the national team.
“I have been following the selection and preparation of Somali National Basketball Team as we have been working on with some of players here in London and I am quite pleased the players they have chosen to represent Somalia at the championship” said the voluntary coach who has been helping Somali and other disadvantaged kids in London for the past 15 years.
Former national Basketball players around the globe have also praised Somali Basketball Federation and the secretary general in particular for their efforts of finally identifying valuable players to represent Somali flag in international tournaments.
