Taariikhda Kooxda:
Elman football club was initially founded by a leading peace activist and prominent human rights campaigner, late Mohamed Ali Ahmed “Elman”. Late Elman initiated several humanitarian and peace programs in Mogadishu in early 1990s as Somalia descended in to anarchy. Mr. Elman has devoted his effort, time and resources to provide assistance to youngsters to earn an alternative way of living than the barrel of the gun.
Elman’s message was simple; “if you go with the warlords, you will probably be killed. If you come with me, I will help you; you will be able to get married, have children, and get good job. Today you don’t know how to write your name. Tomorrow, perhaps, you could be president.”
Elman Ali Ahmed, 42, was held in high repute in Mogadishu and among the international organizations working for peace, developed and human rights in Somalia. Elman paid the ultimate price for his generosity and commitment to peaceful Somalia, and sacrifices his life, for a cause he dearly believed in. Elman was murdered in Mogadishu on March 9th, 1996 at 7:30 PM.
In recognition of his contribution to the society, and in order to support Elman center’s peace programme, a sport club formerly found by late Elman was re-established and named after him. Elman initially established the club for the fact that there is an enormous potential of sports in the peace process, demobilization of young people, community reintegration and promoting healthy society.
